Calibration Test Results for SynthEdit Peak Meter (SynthEdit version 0.84 beta 13) Tests were performed using mda's TestTone VST signal generator and PSP's Vintage Meter VST. I used the latter in PPM mode, with the PPM integration time set to 0 to get a true digital peak reading, as per the manual. These two instruments agreed with each other 100%, so I'm reasonably confident of their accuracy. Sig. Pink noise gave slightly lower readings, but not enough to change the number of segments displayed. (*The "Value" column shows the numbers from the tool tips that appear when you hover the mouse over the Peak Meter.) The following seem to be the critical values for the Peak Meter, that is, the break points where an additional segment gets turned on: CV "Value" # Segs Displayed dB Reading ------- ------- ---------------- ---------- 0.00386 2.00 1 -35 0.01072 3.00 2 -30 0.02983 4.00 3 -25 0.08298 5.00 4 -20 0.2309 6.00 5 -15 0.6425 7.00 6 -10 1.788 8.00 7 -5 4.975 9.00 8 0 13.85 10.00 9 over (red) Posted Friday, November 8, 2002 Dave Haupt dhaupt@jhu.edu
